Admissions

At Sojourn at Seneca Senior Behavioral Health, we provide short-term inpatient psychiatric care for seniors aged 55 and older who require stabilization in an acute care setting. Our compassionate team is dedicated to supporting individuals through their mental health challenges in a safe and structured environment.

Admissions Criteria

We specialize in treating a wide range of psychiatric and behavioral health conditions, including:

  • Depression

  • Suicidal or homicidal thoughts

  • Paranoia

  • Delusions and/or hallucinations

  • Behavioral disturbances

  • Alzheimer’s disease & dementia-related concerns

  • Anxiety disorders

  • Schizophrenia

  • Bipolar disorder

  • Insomnia or changes in sleeping patterns

  • Increased forgetfulness or confusion

  • Acute onset of inability to care for self or attend to daily activities

  • Refusal to take medications

Referral Process

Step 1: Initial Contact

  • Demographic and insurance information

  • Brief description of behavioral concerns or symptoms

Step 2: Submit Referral Packet

Required Documents:

  • Demographic sheet & insurance information

  • Advance Directives, Medical Power of Attorney, or Guardianship Papers (if applicable)

  • Current progress notes documenting symptoms

  • History & Physical

  • Current Medication Administration Record (MAR) & order summary

  • CBC, BMP, and UA (within the last 60 days, if available; otherwise, obtained on admission)

Step 3: Review & Admission
  • Patient information will be promptly reviewed by our psychiatrist

  • Our intake coordinator will contact you with next steps

  • The referring facility will arrange transportation

We are contracted with Fenix Medical Transport to assist as needed.

 

🦠 COVID-19 Safety Requirement:
negative COVID-19 test is required prior to admission.

 

📝 Legal Documentation:
A voluntary consent or pink slip must be completed before admission.

Frequently Asked Questions

What insurance do you accept?

We accept Medicare, Medicaid, and most private insurance plans. However, we do not accept SummaCare. For specific insurance inquiries, please contact our admissions office.

 

What is the typical length of stay?

The length of stay varies based on each patient’s individual needs and treatment plan. Our goal is to stabilize and support patients so they can return to their normal living environment as soon as possible.

 

Can family members visit?

Yes! Family involvement is encouraged. Please refer to our Visiting Hours page for details on visitation policies and scheduling.

 

What should I bring for the patient?

We recommend bringing:
✔ Three outfits (no strings or drawstrings)
✔ Slippers or shoes without laces

Personal belongings such as cell phones and purses are not allowed on the unit and will be securely stored.
